Ray is fluent in his style. Be it his writings or films. I believe his fluency in expressions emerges from two main factors:
- His grasp on the subject matter.
- His pedagogical intent. It's very different than showing off how much you know, which often leads to intentional obscurity.
This book collects some of his writings related to his life as a film director. Some of these are memories, some are articles written about the history and techniques of film-making, and others are his replies to the criticism of his works. There is an interview of an artist he took also.
Here, we can take a peek into his beautiful mind. His uncompromising artistry, sensitivity, wisdom, and timeless and progressive understanding of art and its various mediums amazed me. This book is a good starting point to know what kind of man he was.
